James (MindShare regional team, Singapore) writes:

Who can resist peeping at the real world economics of a virtual world? Linden Labs Marketing Director Glenn Fisher just updated a Paris conference audience with a range of statistics on business in Second Life:-

  • $7m is exchanged in trade by avatars every month
  • The SL economy is worth $84m
  • Not including land deals, there are $500,000 in monthly purchases
  • There are over 7,000 businesses in-world
  • The average revenue of the top 10 businesses is $25,000
  • The top 100 businesses gross $6,300 on average

Any guesses how long before the SL economy overtakes the smallest national economy in the world?

In case you want tips on how to get involved, e-consultancy website also has a good interview article on SL do’s and dont’s.

Stumbled upon your blog a week ago and decided to come back. Not for the articles you write, but for how you write them, really amazing stuff you’re doing here, I like how you put information into the articles which makes it much more easier to read and much more interesting of course. Keep up the good work!
