Most blog posts are in Asian languages

37% of all blogs are in Japanese, only 31% in English and 15% in Chinese, according to Technorati (March 06). This means that at least 52% are in Asian languages, and presumably China is still growing at a rapid pace. It seems incredible that here in Asia many marketers still perceive blogging as a ‘western’ concept yet to impact the region.
This insight is just one of the highlights for me in Ross Dawson’s excellent 15-page PDF publication, just released, and free for all to download, The Future of Media Report.
The report is published as a thought-starter in advance of the Future of Media event taking place next week in San Francisco and Sidney. Apart appreciating the great, clean charts, I also learned:
-
Eighteen percent of Americans over 65 years old have created content on the Internet, showing it’s not just for teenagers
-
The US is heavily overrepresented in the global media markets, boasting 42% of all revenue. However China’s media appetite is exploding.
-
Other countries are catching up to the US in online advertising, though classifieds is a particularly strong source of revenue growth in the US.
-
Teens spend more total time with media than adults, but less time watching TV
Enjoy, and thanks Ross!
